Although the role of laminate panels has been growing in the furniture industry for years, many customers still rely on wooden beds, appreciating their durability and natural character. In this text, we will show you the diverse choice of beds made from it.

Solid wood beds and veneered board beds

Right from the outset, it is worth distinguishing between two issues. Wooden beds are not always made only of solid wood. Manufacturers often use it for the fronts and make the carcasses from veneered board. A properly laid veneer of good quality is visually no different from solid wood, while the use of a veneered board affects the lower price of the entire piece of furniture.

What type of wood will be best?

When considering which type of wood to choose for your bed, you need to consider two things - its strength, colour and (if you want to finish it yourself) also how easy it is to work with. In addition, the choice of a particular wood species also affects the price of the furniture itself.

Looking at the financial criteria, the most favourable choice would be pine beds. This material has the advantage of being less dense compared to other types of wood, as well as being easy to work with, due to its light colour (it can be easily stained) and softness. Unfortunately, the latter is also a disadvantage - pine beds are easier to scratch or bruise and boards made of it are also more prone to warping.

The other species of wood that is just as often used for beds is oak. It is harder than pine and less prone to damage and deformation, which also makes it more difficult to work with. If you opt for an oak bed, you will also get a piece of furniture in a warm walnut colour - another advantage of this material.

An even harder species of wood is beech. Beech beds are not only very durable, but also have a pleasant, light colour. Disadvantages: the higher density of the wood compared to pine and oak affects the higher weight of the furniture. However, we believe that its durability definitely compensates for this disadvantage. On top of this, most shops also offer a carry-in purchase option, so you can enjoy your new bed without any extra effort.

Wooden bed styles

The look of wooden beds has changed dramatically over the past 150 years. The 19th century was dominated by heavy, richly decorated beds, often with high headboards and carved details that gave them a monumental feel. In the 20th century, with the rise of modernism, beds became simpler, lighter and more functional. This trend continued until the 1990s, when designs drawing on postmodernism began to appear - wooden beds took on more varied forms, combining different geometric shapes, and often metal and glass inserts began to appear as well.

The fashion for modern wooden beds does not, of course, mean that classic beds have disappeared from the market. They are still appreciated by many people for their solidity and decorative character.

Modern wooden beds

Modern-style beds represent a kind of compromise. On the one hand, they are much less decorative compared to classic beds, on the other hand, they still have some variety, such as the aforementioned inserts in other materials (for example metal legs) or the use of unusual elements (such as a curved headboard). This type of design will work well in bedrooms decorated in both loft and minimalist styles.
