When considering the size of a bookcase, it is worth starting with a fundamental question: how much storage space should there be in the bathroom? It can be assumed that there should be 0.5 - 1 m² of shelving per person. So, for example, one 60 cm wide and 30 cm deep bathroom pedestal with 4 shelves will give you 0.72 m². This is absolutely sufficient space for one person, but not enough for two. How to protect a cabinet under the wash basin from moisture

Cabinets under wash basins are usually made of moisture-resistant materials. However, even these, when regularly flooded by water, can deteriorate. How can this be prevented? The key to success is a precisely seated wash basin with properly protected joints (usually sealed with silicone). This will prevent any dripping from the worktop and the washbasin from penetrating into the cabinet. A poorly fastened tap (insufficiently pressed against the worktop/sink) can also be a source of potential leakage.

Another consideration is the protection of the cabinet materials themselves. Usually these are secured at the factory - the carcasses are made of laminated board, the fronts are made of the same material or of lacquered board. However, in the case of solid wood worktops and construction, you need to remember to varnish or stain. In the case of staining, a new coat must be applied every ten months or so, while in the case of varnishing, sanding off the previous coat and applying a new one is recommended every few years.

How much does it cost to fit a bathroom?

The costs depend on the size of the bathroom, the materials used and the possible need for renovation work before finishing this room. It can be assumed that the finishing of 1 square metre of bathroom (purchase and installation of fittings, furniture and tiles) will cost around 3-4 thousand PLN. This means that in the case of bathrooms with an average surface area of 5-8 square metres, we will have to spend between 15 and even 32 thousand zlotys.

How do we choose a washbasin cabinet?

It all depends on the type of wash basin itself. On the market, there is a choice between countertop and inset furniture wash basins. In the case of a furniture wash basin, the cabinet should be the same size. In the other two cases, the body should be larger than the size of the wash basin. In the case of a drop-in basin, remember that there should be a gap of a few centimetres from the hole for it to the edge of the countertop. This will ensure that the countertop will not break at the narrowest point after its installation.

How high should the cabinet under the wash basin be?

The total height of the furniture together with the wash basin should be 85-90 cm counted from the floor. Therefore, in the case of tall countertop wash basins, the height of the cabinet should be slightly lower, if you opt for a standing cabinet rather than a wall-mounted cabinet. In the case of wall-hung cabinets, simply install them at such a distance from the floor that the top of the wash basin falls approximately 90 cm above the floor.
