Key features of modern desks: simplicity and functionality

The modern style is often inspired by two main trends - Scandinavian, characterised by bright colours and natural materials, and industrial, which draws on the rawness of metal and wood. Another feature of modern desks is, of course, minimalism - simple lines, economy of form and a colour palette limited to neutral colours such as white, beige, often complemented by black and natural wood elements.

What are modern desks made of?

The aforementioned natural wood is a timeless material that is also popularly used today. Wooden, modern desks are usually made of oak - this species has a warm and pleasant colour and is correspondingly hard.

It is common for designers of modern furniture to combine different materials, which is why we can often find desks combining a wooden top with legs made of a different material (for example, steel) or exactly the opposite - a top made of, for example, lacquered board, with wooden legs.

For lovers of industrial style, for example, desks made of powder-coated steel combined with toughened glass would be a great choice. Modern desks also include surfaces made of laminate or MDF. Thanks to their matt finishes, they are not only easy to clean, but also durable.

Ergonomics and comfort

When choosing a desk, ergonomics must not be forgotten - after all, it is mainly to be used for work. Here, the principles are similar for both classic and modern desks. The top should be between 74 and 76 cm high - the optimum range for most people.

The width and depth of the tabletop are other key considerations. In order to work comfortably, it is advisable to opt for a desk that is at least 120 cm wide, which will provide sufficient space for a computer and other necessary office accessories. The depth should be a minimum of 60 cm, which will allow you to use the tabletop comfortably without leaning too much towards the monitor.

Examples of arrangements with modern desks

Modern desks work well in a variety of interior styles, adding freshness and functionality. In loft spaces, characterised by austerity and open space, desks with a metal frame and wooden top are a hit. Such a piece of furniture, although simple, brings a unique, industrial atmosphere to the interior.

Desks with thin, chrome legs and matt tops look great in minimalist interiors. These light forms emphasise the spaciousness of the rooms without overwhelming them. A minimalist desk choice also promotes concentration and a tidy work space.
