It can be assumed that bathroom posts are a very slimmed-down form of bathroom cabinet. Thanks to their narrow (they are usually 25 to 40 cm wide) and shallow (20-30 cm deep) design, they fit perfectly where other furniture would not be able to fit.

As with cabinets, posts also come in a variety of versions and configurations and styles. In recent years, modern-style pedestals have become more popular, with a simple, unadorned design and often with lacquered fronts in geometric patterns. Usually, bathroom pedestals are white or beige, which makes the most practical sense - a light colour brightens up the space and optically enlarges it. And as you know, bathrooms usually have no access to natural light and often have a small footprint as well.

In another article on this page, we mentioned that each household member should have 0.1 m3 of storage space available in the bathroom. Narrow posts provide all too much of it, thanks to their height. For example, one 25 cm deep, 30 cm wide and 140 cm high pedestal provides just that much space. And yet you can easily find posts on the market that are even taller.

How do I arrange my bathroom with cabinets and posts?

The pedestal can be set up as a stand-alone piece of furniture or can be attached, for example, to a cabinet under the wash basin. In the latter case, it is advisable to match the fronts of both pieces of furniture in order to achieve a uniform appearance. In the search for a convenient place, it is worth looking around for all kinds of recesses and bends, formed, for example, by a ventilation riser or a riser housing with pipes. These are the places that bathroom posts "like" best. Placing them there will make absolutely maximum use of the space.

Another thing to bear in mind is to separate zones in the bathroom (even the smallest one). Interior architects are fond of creating them - in the description of many projects, you may come across, for example, a day zone, an evening zone, a kitchen zone, a relaxation zone, etc. And this mannerism makes sense - this approach keeps everything close at hand. What does this mean in practice? Only that it makes sense to group certain items and articles according to their function and purpose - for example, the laundry basket post should be close to the washing machine, as should the laundry detergents. Towels, on the other hand, should rest close to the bath or shower cubicle and so on.

Since we have already mentioned bathroom pedestals with basket, we will devote some space to them. You will often find this type of furniture in shops - and it is well worth going for them. This is because they are very practical and can make loading laundry into the washing machine much easier (provided they are positioned in the right place). The only drawback is the extra space required to pull out the hamper - remember to measure your bathroom space before you buy to avoid any nasty surprises.

What colour should you choose?

The most obvious choice for the bathroom is white. As we have already mentioned, this colour has many advantages - it brightens up the space and enlarges it optically. What's more, it works well with light-coloured bathroom tiles. If you want a more contrasting solution, you can reach for another universal colour - black and complete the whole thing with wooden accents, such as a countertop under the washbasin, a bamboo rack for towels or other small toilet accessories.

A popular and interesting solution is also to combine black with bottle green - according to this approach, you can opt for a black pillar and paint the walls above the tile line precisely in green. With this combination, it is of course worth opting for white tiles.

Irrespective of the colour you choose, it is worth remembering that most surfaces in the bathroom should be covered with neutral colours and that striking colour accents should be used in moderation and in spots.
