The bedroom - a place of tranquillity after a day's work and responsibilities, a zone of relaxation and rest. We have known for a long time that the saying "as you make your bed, so you sleep in it" applies to everyday life. Whether we take care of the space in which we sleep has a great impact on how we rest in it. This starts with adequate shade and ends with a well-fitting mattress. Seemingly simple, but often forgotten things. Nevertheless, there remain many other threads that often bother those designing a new interior. So how do you properly furnish a bedroom to be completely satisfied with it? Read our post to find out our advice on the subject!
How to decorate a bedroom - find out some valuable tips!
Of course, first and foremost we need to consider what style we would like to keep our bedroom in. This will have an impact on the subsequent purchase of furniture. Familiarise yourself with the different styles and choose the one that appeals most to you. The most common choices for bedroom furniture are Scandinavian, modern, boho, or the recently very fashionable japanese style. Each of these brings an aura of calm and cosiness to the interior. The combination of fine wood and modern accents is a compromise between classic craftsmanship and today's trends.
How do I position my bedroom furniture?
Once we know in which style we want to decorate our interior, it is necessary to determine the most convenient furniture placement. What should we pay attention to when arranging the bedroom? First of all, the space between the bedroom furniture. Carefully measure the available space. Don't forget about the opening of doors and wardrobes - leave at least 60 cm of free space in front of hinged doors so you can open them freely. It is also important to leave space for a passageway around the bed, especially when two people are using the bed. Also consider access to sockets and various light sources - don't position your furniture in a way that makes it difficult to plug in a charger or bedside lamp.
Pausing for a moment on this thread, it is worth emphasising the importance of the proportionality of the furniture to the space available. Many people choose furniture paying attention only to the visual aspect. Bear in mind that a bed with an ornate and wide headboard may look striking, but will take up much more space than a minimalist model. If you have limited space, consider multifunctional furniture such as beds with storage, or instead of a bedside table, choose a bedside table with drawers for extra storage space.
Which bed to choose for your bedroom?
The bed is the heart of every bedroom, it is what determines our sleep - whether it is deep and restorative or shallow and ineffective. Taking care of the comfort of our daily life, it is worth to rely on a model that is not only visually attractive, but also has a stable structure made of good quality materials.
We have a choice of wooden beds or upholstered beds. Beds upholstered in fabric will be ideal for fans of softness, while those made of wood will work well for fans of classics. Of course, the division of beds does not end with the material from which they are made. There are also beds with a container, beds with a lift (i.e. with a lifting frame, usually on gas cylinders), continental beds, youth beds or even double beds. You can adjust the size of the bed to suit your needs. The most popular sizes are 160x200 beds, 180x200 beds, but also 200x200 beds.
When choosing the right bed, it is worth considering functionality first and foremost, but also the needs of the household. For example, if you have joint problems, it is best to go for a continental bed, as it is high, so that the process of getting out of bed and lying down can be most pleasant and less stressful on the joints. It is also a suitable choice for older people. On the other hand, if you have limited space, you may want to consider a bed with a container, as you then gain extra storage and organisation space.
What types of mattresses are there and which one should you choose?
If there's a bed, there's a mattress! After all, it is an essential part of a comfortable night's sleep. What should it be like?
The mattress should be the right choice in terms of firmness, type of filling, breathability and resistance to deformation. It all really depends on your preferences. If we prefer firmness then it is worth opting for an H3, or firm mattress. Similarly, if you like medium softness, you may be tempted to go for a H2 mattress, which is medium. For special fans of softness, slim people and teenagers or children, an H1 mattress is suitable. When it comes to the filling, we have many types, such as foam, spring, latex or hybrid. Foam mattresses are a budget solution, good for people who are not particularly interested in special sleeping comfort. Spring mattresses are a hit for those who appreciate stable support and classic solutions. A latex mattress is ideal for allergy sufferers, but also for those looking for a 'premium' mattress. A hybrid is a combination of several technologies in a mattress, thanks to which it provides both comfort and adequate support.
Bedroom furniture - what to look for?
Hardwood furniture is almost as important as the bed in the bedroom. They mainly act as storage and organisation of the space. When choosing hardwood furniture, we should be guided by its functionality, and its capacity - tailored to our needs. They are the ones that define the style of the interior and, just as importantly, influence the comfort of everyday life.
Wardrobes are the largest of all hardwood furniture. We have sliding w ardrobes and wardrobes with hinged doors. A wardrobe with sliding doors will be a good option in a bedroom where space is limited or there is not enough room to open the fronts. In contrast, hinged doors are a good choice for larger spaces.
Awardrobe with a mirror optically enlarges the space, while at the same time being a 2-in-1 piece of furniture. If you like functional solutions, consider this option!
Chests, tables and bedside tables are practical pieces of furniture that can hold a lot of things. They are usually of great importance for everyday comfort. They are also an extra place to display decorations in the bedroom. We can place a bedside lamp or a favourite candle on them, which will further set a pleasant mood before bedtime.
If you decide on a bedside table or nightstand and you have a double bed, make sure that there is similar sized furniture on both sides.
